I bought a second-hand ThinkPad T480 for some recent travelling purposes.

After I got my laptop, the idea that popped up in my mind is: why not replacing the pre-installed Windows with a Linux distribution? Not only it's probably better UX for a programmer, but also it's cooler.

Yeah, being cooler is very important.

And that's why I am not very interested in installing Ubuntu or Linux Mint. I have been messing with those two since I was an undergrad. Even till now, those two are still the ones that newcomers are fond of. However, they are just not cool enough. Plus, I used to have a laptop that had dual-boot of Windows and Mint. After not booting it for, like, years, the laptop was broken in a funny way. When I tried to boot it, it was booting into BIOS directly, and from BIOS it did not seem to find either one of my OSes. Okay, that's probably not Mint's of Windows' fault anyway.

I heard about Arch being a great Linux distro. Also cool distro. More practically, they indeed have one of the best docs of anywhere on the Internet.

However, it is also well known that, Arch is hard to install and user for one if they are not great at Linux stuff. Is there any alternative that is both cool and easy to configure so that I can just start using right away without worrying too much about all kinds of settings.

Here comes Garuda Linux.

An Arch-based Linux distro, which is specifically optimized for usability and gaming.

I have to say I love its appearance. It has a desktop environment that is both usable and beautiful.

As an Arch-based distro, you also have the luxury of Arch User Repository (AUR) package repo, which is one of the best software archive in terms of quality and quantity.

For anyone who is interested in playing Steam games on Linux, even though those games were probably made for Windows, you definitely should check out Garuda Linux.
